Understanding Corneal Injuries

What it is:

A corneal abrasion is a scratch on the clear front surface of your eye (the cornea). Even a tiny scratch can be surprisingly painful and make it feel like something is stuck in your eye. It might cause redness, tearing, blurry vision, and sensitivity to light.

When to Seek Care:

Any suspected eye scratch warrants evaluation to prevent infection and ensure proper healing. Seek immediate care if you have significant pain, vision changes, or discharge.

How We Help:

Dr. Said will carefully examine your eye, often using a special dye (fluorescein) to see the scratch clearly. Treatment typically involves antibiotic drops or ointment to prevent infection and lubricating drops for comfort. Sometimes, a special bandage contact lens or eye patch may be used to aid healing and reduce pain. We provide clear instructions to help your eye heal quickly, usually within a few days for minor abrasions.
